This section is under development, so for now, please read a brief historical background on the Association’s participation in various international events dedicated to mediation issues.

SEMINAR

Today, the President of the Association, N.A. Lykova, took part as a listener in a Seminar on Investment Mediation, which was held within the framework of the Forum for Further Preparatory Work on Investment Mediation of the UNCITRAL Working Group III on ISDS Reform, organized by the United Nations UNCITRAL, Asian Academy of International Law, Department of Justice, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China.
During the seminar, the speakers discussed draft new rules, draft model regulations, draft guidelines, new procedural rules, a draft settlement agreement, issues of the relationship between confidentiality and openness of the dispute resolution process between the parties of the conflict, the relationship between the use of direct negotiations, mandatory mediation and arbitration, etc.

SEMINAR

Today, the second international seminar «Understanding and Utilization of the Singapore Convention on Mediation was held, organized by the Korea International Mediation Centre. The President of the Association took part in the seminar as a debater from Russia.

ROUND TABLE

Today, the President of the Association took part as a listener in the framework of an online round table «Understanding the UNCITRAL ADR Instruments in the Nepali Context», dedicated to Nepal’s inaugural UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Day event co-organized with Kathmandu University School of Law (KUSL) and Nepal International ADR Center (NIAC). The event aims to enhance Nepali students, scholars, and public and private stakeholders’ understanding of the UNCITRAL framework on arbitration and mediation.

MEETING

Today, the President of the Association, Natalia Lykova, took part as a listener in the framework of the inter-sessional online seminar of Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
The meeting was organized by the United Nations UNCITRAL, Asian Academy of International Law, Department of Justice, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China.
The seminar discussed the use of mediation in the settlement of disputes between investors and the state, in particular, overcoming barriers and capacity building.

MEETING

Today, the President of the Association, Natalia Lykova, took part as a listener in the framework of the Inter-sessional online Meeting of the Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
The meeting was organized by the United Nations UNCITRAL, Asian Academy of International Law, Department of Justice, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China.
During the meeting, issues of reforming the initial mediation projects and other forms of alternative dispute resolution were discussed, questions were raised on model contractual provisions on mediation, and opinions were exchanged between representatives of various international organizations.

Today, the President of the Association took part in the plenary session of the VI Pacific Law Forum «Law, Its Application and Implementation in the Era of Global Challenges and Changing Reality». The Association acted as a co-organizer of this legal Forum.

CONFERENCE

Today, the International Scientific and Practical Conference of the Asia-Pacific Region Mediators «The role and potential of mediation and negotiations in the peaceful settlement of international and private disputes in the Asia-Pacific region» was held at the Far Eastern Federal University.
In 2021, the conference turned out to be the largest mediation conference in Russia with the participation of representatives of various countries.
The conference is organized by the Association of Mediators and Intermediaries of the Asia-Pacific Region, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of Primorsky Krai, the Korean International Mediation Center, FEFU.
The conference raised issues of developing and strengthening global and private partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region through mediation and negotiations. Discussed the modern international system for resolving military, criminal and private disputes in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the role and potential of mediation and negotiations in the peaceful settlement of global and private disputes in the Asia-Pacific region. Modern technologies and techniques used in mediation and negotiations in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the use of mediation in arbitration in various legal systems of the Asia-Pacific countries were considered.

Fourth International Conference of Asia-Pacific Mediators

Today, for the first time in Russia, the Fourth International Conference of Asia-Pacific Mediators was held. It was initiated by the mediators of the Association.

It should be noted that the Conference was held in Vladivostok, Russia, where various forums, Conferences, International intergovernmental meetings are held annually, which are specifically aimed at developing and deeply integrating political, economic, social and scientific cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

It is noteworthy that the Conference was attended by representatives of the Russian state authorities and rule-making organizations (Talabayeva Lyudmila Zaumovna – member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Berezhnaya Tatyana Aleksandrovna – Deputy Head of Vladivostok, Dorozhkina Violetta Aleksandrovna – Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor of Primorsky Krai, Khrushchev Igor Eduardovich – Director of the branch of Federal State Public Administration Institution “Directorate for Construction and Operation of Facilities of Rosgranitsa (Russian border)” in Vladivostok of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Melnikov Yuriy Borisovich – Commissioner for Human Rights in Primorsky Krai, Medvedeva Irina Petrovna – Commissioner under the Governor of Primorsky Krai for the rights of children of the apparatus under the Governor of Primorsky Krai, Elena Borisovna Romashko – Head of the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs in Primorsky Krai, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of Primorsky Krai, deputies of the Duma of Vladivostok, representatives of the Department for working with the municipal and educational institutions of the Vladivostok administration, representatives of other authorities) who are ardent supporters of such events and take a keen interest in the opinions and suggestions of participants and their activities.

At the Conference, the head of the UNCITRAL Regional Center for Asia, the Pacific Atita Komindr, as well as mediators from other APR countries, made a presentation on the Singapore Mediation Convention.          

As a result of the Conference, the participants agreed that mediators of the APR countries and International organizations will cooperate closely and actively take part in the assistance of the development of mediation in the APR countries. It was noted that there was a need to form and build a scientific base and training programs for international mediators in assisting to resolve international and private disputes, share practical experience, and also to hold more conferences of this kind in Russia.

The Association expresses special gratitude to all participants and guests of the Conference for their productive work. Regional dimension

Today, our President took part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference Regional Dimension – Issues of Ensuring Human and Civil Rights and Freedoms, within the framework of which the issues of mediation were also discussed as a way to protect human and civil rights and freedoms.

3rd Conference of Mediators


Natalia Gennadievna Prisekina took part in the 3rd Conference of Mediators of the Asia-Pacific Region and made a presentation in the section devoted to the strategy of Russia, China, Japan, and Korea at the Singapore Convention on Mediation. The conference was attended by mediators of the largest media organizations in the Asia-Pacific Region, UNCITRAL representatives, prosecutors, government officials, business representatives, and lawyers from South Korea, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, Russia, the United States of America, Australia, Singapore, Hong-Hong and other Countries.

The Conference

Our mediators Natalia Gennadievna Prisekina, Natalia Andreevna Lykova, and member of the Honorary Council of the Association Yuriy Borisovich Melnikov took part in the 2nd Conference of Asian-Pacific Region Mediators. Natalia Andreevna Lykova was given the honorary right to be the first speaker and open the conference with the report “Current Trends in Mediation in the Asia-Pacific Region” (next phase). Natalia Gennadievna Prisekina was invited to be the first speaker and open the 4th section of the conference with the report “Training of mediators in the APR (including legal education)”. The conference was attended by mediators of the largest media organizations in the Asia-Pacific Region, representatives of UNCITRAL, prosecutors, government officials, business representatives, lawyers from South Korea, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, Russia, the United States of America, Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries.

Earlier in October 2017, our mediators, Natalia Gennadievna Prisekina and Natalia Andreevna Lykova took part in the 1st Conference of Mediators of the Asia-Pacific Region. In the first section, Prisekina Natalia Gennadievna spoke about “The practice and features of the development of mediation in the Far Eastern region of Russia”, a report jointly prepared with the assistance of Lykova Natalia Andreevna. It is thanks to the efforts of our mediators that the mediators of the Russian Far East have the opportunity to gain practical experience in resolving disputes from our colleagues of the Asian-Pacific countries. Mediators from the Khabarovsk Krai were also able to take part in the conference.

Winners in a special nomination

For the first time, a team of FEFU students took part and won in the special nomination Best Relationship Building with Another Team” in the International Competition for commercial mediation held by the Hong Kong International Chamber of Commerce. Our mediators, Natalia Gennadievna Prisekina and Natalia Andreevna Lykova acted as mentors and trainers for the FEFU student team.

The Conference

For the first time in the framework of the IV Pacific Legal Forum, and by the initiative of the mediators of the Association, “Prospects for the development of legal science, practice and education in the APR” at the Far Eastern Federal University, a scientific and practical conference “Mediation and Arbitration Courts” was held. The Association took an active part and assisted in organizing the work of the Forum. The conference was moderated by our mediators Natalia Gennadievna Prisekina and Natalia Andreyevna Lykova. It was attended by mediators and arbitrators from Russia, the People’s Republic of China, and South Korea. They discussed the problems of the development of mediation and arbitration and shared their practical experiences. Our mediator, Natalia Andreevna Lykova made a presentation titled ”Difficulties in resolving disputes and conducting mediation procedures with the participation of citizens and companies from different states of the APR”.
